there is an yvette carnell thread right here on destee. have you read it ?????

come down to philly this sat. to see the last poets and our local philly poets perform. i will be there.
I wish I had the funds to do that real bad! I mis the Last Poets! I use to talk to Jalal Nurridin (PBUH) back when he was doing starting to do accupuncture and was teaching Bai Mei! We used to hang out at a brothers, Buddha Hand Wing Chun school on Bergen and Baltic , back in the 80s!

Not to nitpick here but you must have forgot that Bergen Street and Baltic Street do not intersect anywhere in Brooklyn. Baltic Street parallels Bergen Street 4 blocks to the South from 5th Avenue to one block East of I-278 a/k/a Gowanus Expressway. There used to be a Baltic Avenue in East New York in the 1800's but none of us were around. Ever hang out at Gowanus Houses? How about Red Hook Houses? I used to have a girlfriend who had a brother that rolled with The Jolly Stompers at Langston Hughes projects. I remember the Chaplains and Corsair Lords back in the 50's. I forgot which gang rolled out of Kingsborough Projects and which gang rolled out of Albany Projects or was it Brevoort? Ever heard of them?
So what was your impression of the 5% , and the changes that occured from all that gang banging after the NOGE became the new street culture by 67??

I already addressed my personal impression of NOI on an earlier thread and I'm not going to indulge you with a virtual cut and paste rehash. Look it up. NOGE and it's founder Clarence Smith a/k/a Clarence 13X and his exploits were of zero concern to me. If anything the Black Panther Party and it's subsidiary The Black Liberation Army which in actuality were the BPP vanguard who fought government fire with revolutionaries from the street fire. Now if you really knew gang history you would know that gang banging didn't originate in South Central/Crenshaw/LA/Watts or Compton between the Bloods and the Crips or even any Black gang anywhere in America including Chicago's notorious Blackstone Rangers who thanks to NOI spokesman Louis Farrakhan by introduction were heavily funded by foreign nations deemed by the U.S. State Department, the C.I.A and the DOJ to be hostile to America's National Security like Libya and the Socialist Party in Nicaragua. The Blackstone Rangers even attained a manner of legitimacy by incorporating in Illinois and actually received hundreds of thousands of dollars in government grants. Like slavery of our elders gang banging like drug dealing and positioning for power "Which are the primary reasons why gangs of all races, colors and creeds bang" existed long before we were born and as long as there is money to be made by everyone involved gangs will keep banging. Let's not forget America's biggest and most ruthless gang is our Federal Alphabet law enforcement agencies. That's it. I have nothing more to say.
All due respect , I didnt say to you or your personal opinion, I asked you regarding your observations in the Black community as someone who claims to have lived in Brooklyn and worked in Harlem!

But lets be honest! this goes on cause we as a people have become too distracted , to unite and say , never again!
And when I mention snake bite, I am talking about how we lost the Black unity and collective focus we used to have as a people! You mention the Panthers! the Panthers were principles , principles , that can be restored, so what do you see is stopping , the community from restoring them! I say its a cultural virus !
What do you say is the reason??

I'll be honest. I like black culture forums, so I've signed up for this one, BX, and Lipstick Alley. I won't post too often, only on things that I'm really interested in. Nice to meet you. :)
