It can be argued that two terms is the proper time frame to be allowed a president of a country, but that should be left up to the people of the country to decide. We here in the US have had an only two term presidency since 1951, before then it was for as many times one could get elected. The constitution was changed to make it so.Most if not all the countries in Latin America have their corruption problems as the real news indicated. but Venezuela is the only one that has became a failed state. If Evo Morales had not fathered an out of wedlock child he would be well on his way to a 4th term as president. Constitutions can be changed at will by the ruling party example is the Dominican Republic, like most countries the rule is 2 consecutive terms, but then unlike the USA they can run again or in the our case change the constitution then run again. . This was also true with venezuela and bolivia
Joaquín Balaguer three non-consecutive terms for that office from 1960 to 1962, 1966 to 1978, and 1986 to 1996.
Hipolito 2000-2004 had the constitution changed to allow him to run again but he lost the election.
Leonel Fernández 1996-2000, 2004-2008, 2008-2012
Danilo Medina 2012-2016, 2016-current and talk about changing the constitution to allow a third term,
Fernandez will be on the ballot if the constitution is not changed.
Cuba bypassed all the problems associated with changing theirs Fidel Castro president for life. And if Chavez had not died he was also president for life.
its hard to lose and election if your the only one on the ballot.
In the new constitution Mr Chavez, 54, scraps the maximum presidential incumbency of two six-year terms, to instead permit seven-year terms with indefinite re-election. This was in 2007
That Venezuela is a state in crisis or that it's failing isn't any real news. The real news is the why. And the part the US played in bringing about the crisis and the part the US plays in making sure to exasperate the situation and to what ends, perhaps for another Brazil? Another Columbia? Another Honduras? Another Chile? Nicaragua? Guatemala? etc etc I don't really need to name every S. American country the US has maliciously meddled in merely for profit to enrich in one direction only.
