Brother AACOOLDRE : The Life of Jesus critically examined

By David Friedrich Strauss (1808-1874), published this three Volume monumental work in Germany between 1835-1836. He concluded that all of the miraculous events of Jesus were mythical and ahistorical.

Book review By Andre Austin

In his concluding dissertation he states:

“The results of the inquiry which we have brought to a close, have apparently annihilated the greatest and most valuable part of that which the Christian has been wont to believe concerning his savior Jesus, have uprooted all the animating motives which he has gathered from his faith, and withered all his consolations. The boundless store of the truth and life for eighteen centuries has been the aliment of humanity, seems irretrievably dissipated…Thus at the conclusion of the criticism of the history of Jesus, there presents itself this problem: to re-establish dogmatically that which has been destroyed critically”.

Modern day writers, historians are doing the same thing that Strauss did almost 200 years ago. But they do it more better on a grander scale with modern technology to support them. Today’s critics do not have to reinvent the wheel because Super-Scholars like Strauss have already laid the foundation.
