the near north
she woke up
ripped the shackles that had imprisoned her spirit
winged her of the power
to allow her mind and body to roam free

she couldn't understand why it happened that way
...what had happened that day

she didn't comprehend her purpose
as she walked away
as she walked away
she shed herself of yesterday's baggage
that damaged her crown
that dragged her down
ball and chain
that wore her down
not to mention the pain
of constant beat downs

but today
but this day

she woke up
...raised up
out of neck deep gutters
that threatened to engulf her
to swallow her
to destroy her soul

i'm told
the grass always look greener
on the other side

i'm told
that once you lose respect
you have only your pride

i'm told
anytime is aiight
on the streets of the hood

i'm told
tomorrow isn't promised
but today is good

i'm told

SHE WOKE UP.

I'm glad She Woke up!!!

I'm taking it that this is the conclusion to when...Well anyways...I like It. You have great writings...which was deep yet sutle and to the point.

Onelove.

$$RICH$$ man...i remember 40, kid.:) it's all good...but the best is yet to come.

Shaneak...thanks for the love...but, no, this is not the conclusion to "when" although i can see why you would think so. unfortunately, she's still in the waking stage...not completely UP yet.

Cindy...unfortunately, there are too many women--and some men--who have endured much more than they should have had to. life was meant to be enjoyed...not endured. keep GOD close. the rest will fall into place.

peace&manyblessings.

I am looking for participants in a study to share their experiences as former African American males served as ED/EBD/BD in the southeast. Participants ages 18-35 will be interviewed and given the opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings and impressions of their school years. If interested or for more information please contact me directly. Thanks, Cheryl

Thank you for the welcome. I have a question. I am a doctorate student in need of participants for my study. Is it allowable to post a request for study participants. If so, this is the post that would be uploaded:
