Congress of Afrikan People – Revolutionary Communist League (Marxist-Leninist-Mao Tse Tung Thought)

The Congress of Afrikan People (CAP) had its roots in the Black Arts movement in Newark, New Jersey in the mid-1960s, largely through the efforts of Amiri Baraka. By the late-1960s, under the influence of Malcolm X, Ron Karenga’s US organization and the example of the Black Panthers, the CAP became an explicitly political, Black nationalist organization, with a focus of community organizing and cultural politics. In 1970, at its Atlanta Convention, CAP became a national organization dedicated to building a Black Political Party, including involvement in electoral politics.

In the early 1970s, a growing struggle developed within the CAP between the Black nationalists and the emerging Marxist-Leninist forces, headed by Baraka. With the departure of Haki Madhubuti and Jitu Weusi, the Marxist-Leninist tendency in the organization was strengthened and in 1974-75, CAP took up the study of Marxism-Leninism-Mao Tse Tung Thought and, for a brief period, worked closely with the October League (Marxist-Leninist).

In February, 1976 the organization changed its name to the Revolutionary Communist League (M-L-M). Three years later, the group merged with the League of Revolutionary Struggle (Marxist-Leninist), which had been formed in 1978 through a merger between I Wor Kuen and the August 29th Movement.

Black Politics became branded as overt/covert communism, and with the "anti-communism" themes that COINTELPRO and other arms of the oligarchy promoted and used for propaganda created the more luke warm to cold nature that is now represented in the form of something like the Congressional Black Caucus.

It still lives on Brother...

The aims are still present, just many "black-americans" may not really care for liberation any more, and have become distracted by "Democraps" and "Repugnicans" to consider the alternatives and the idea that it is still is possible.

In regards to CAP, there is a brother here in LA who had been trying to keep it going. His name is Wesley Kabaila.

I know that the Uhuru Movement/APSP was active in the Ferguson protests. Then there are the Black Riders, MXGM, Huey P Newton Gun Club in Dallas, the AAPRP, NBPP, and others. On this question I'm thinking back to the National Black Independent Political Party (NBIPP) and how it eventually folded into the Rainbow Coalition in 1984. There has been no real, viable movement since. For some perspective on how the Uhuru Movement has struggled with the white left...

Whats up brutha O, and good question.

I know you remember the black power movement back in the 60s, I wasn't grown, but I was old enough to know there was two contrasting approaches that we took. You had a choice to go the way of King (non-violent), or X (self defense). You also had the Panther party that made great strides. I'm not saying that it's dead, I just don't see the form that it is in.

Peace!

We are in a new era. Those facts give us evidence we can reach the Melanin Tipping Point just by telling the truth. The Melanin Tipping Point is the point at which we go from healing to healed. Mchakato wa Uponyaji is the process of healing. Melanin Is Worth More Than Gold. That fact puts us in a different state mentally. It affects different people differently. What is certain is the Ubuntu paradigm is returning.
Melanin is worth more than gold. The Red, Black and Green is 100 years old. The Afric, official currency of the United States of Africa is worth over $2.
