Santa Claus … The Yuletide Jesus?
It saddens me to say this, but hardly anyone in the Christian Church today will admit that Santa Claus is actually Satan, the ancient enemy of Jesus. And this is a disturbing fact! That is to say, he is the the Ho Ho Ho who pulls our children away from Jesus at Christmas time by giving them assorted gifts. Jacob knew this as early as Genesis 32 when he wrestled with the real Jesus by the river side.
See, Jacob was left alone in camp after he had crossed over the river. And as it says in verses 24-26, "... and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. Then the man said, 'Let me go, for it is daybreak.'
"But Jacob replied, 'I will not let you go unless you bless me.'"
In the spiritual sense Jacob was asking God as Jesus to come to earth and give him salvation. And this is what happen that Christmas day 2000 years ago!
Remember what Elizabeth said to Mary in Luke 1 about the birth of her son. Verses 42-43 says it this way: "In a loud voice she exclaimed, 'Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?'" Translated: "And why am I so honored that the mother of the God of Jacob should come to me.'"
Thus we read in verse 30: "So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, 'It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared.'"
Then the other God we see on Christmas day is Satan, aka, Santa Clause.
Revelation 12:7-9 says it this way: "Then there was war in heaven. (Jesus) and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were cast out of heaven. This great dragon-the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world-was thrown down to earth with all his angels."
Since then Satan has desperately wanted to get even with Jesus for casting him out of heaven. And what better way for him to do this than to deceive innocent children at Christmas time.
Isaiah 14 says it this way: "For you (Satan, i.e., Santa Clause) said to yourself, 'I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God's stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north." Otherwise said, this is how the legend of Santa coming from the North Pole got started.
But people will still say, what about the legend of St. Nicholas of the third century. He was said to bring gifts to children starting on his feast day, December the 6th. However, this gift giving gradually became focused on Christmas Day. But my answer is: He was only a type or picture of the real Santa Clause, Satan. And the Scriptures bear this out.
And too, Satan has used many people since the birth of Christ as his types and pictures. And if time continues, he will undoubtedly use more.
But before this there was the Germanic (North or Norse) God, Odin. During the winter, children placed their boots near the chimney, filling them with carrots or straw as a gift for his horse, Slipper. When Odin flew by, he rewarded the little ones by leaving gifts in their boots. In several Germanic countries, this practice survived despite the adoption of Christianity. As a result, the gift-giving became associated with St. Nicholas — only nowadays, we hang stockings rather than leaving boots by the chimney!
But still it is hard for our preachers to admit that what I am saying about Satan as Santa Clause is true! See if they did, they would lose their church members. And their collection plates would be gone, too. So they just sit there and say nothing while their members put another God in the place of Jesus.
Just look at the TV commercials at Christmas time. They are dominated by Satan as Santa. And we flock to with folly and glee. As the song goes:
"He had a broad face
And a round little belly,
That shook when he laughed
Like a bowl full of jelly!
"He was chubby and plump,
A right jolly old elf,
I laughed when I saw him
In spite of myself!
"A wink of his eye
And a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know
I had nothing to dread!"
Said another way. Satan inspires them to act this way. "If the Good News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people who are perishing," Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 4. "Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is God in a human body."
But still, we flock to Santa Claus as Satan!
