......"This is environmental racism," said Alagoa Morris, an investigator with a local group, Environmental Rights Action, who regularly risks arrest to monitor activities at the heavily guarded oil and gas installations. "What we are asking for is that oil companies should have to meet the same standards in Nigeria that they do operating in their own countries."

The Opolo-Epie plant is set to join at least 100 other flares burning across the swamps, creeks and forests of this oil-producing region, filling the atmosphere with toxins, seeding the clouds with acid rain and polluting the soil

The gas flares, some of which have been burning constantly since the 1960s, are visible from space. In a country where more than 60 per cent of the people have no reliable electricity supply, the satellite images show the flares burning more brightly than the lights of Nigeria's biggest city, Lagos.

Medical studies have shown the gas burners contribute to an average life expectancy in the Delta region of 43 years. The area also has Nigeria's highest infant mortality rate - 12 per cent of newborns fail to see out their first year. ........

Real talk.

Much of this foolishness is due to the colonial history and the bastard child that is Nigeria. If they gave Biafra autonomy and let the Northern Sokoto Caliphate rule their own country it would be a different story.

Never forget the Ogoni nine.

Also, as far as gas flaring is concerned - it's ruled illegal but Shell has been ignoring that law for years and years.

why the need for seperation?

isn't every African nation plagued by a common enemy/, so why the need for a break up of one
out of 52 nations?, and honestly do
they have that many internal problems that they cannot get over their differences and unite against globalism and white supremacy?

Yes, my Brother.

White supremacy isn't our only enemy back home.

If two families are forced to live together under terrible circumstances; one family is given more power, the other more resources - can you see why they wouldn't want to live together?

For many of our family back home, white supremacy is not the beginning nor the end of anything - it's just an add-on to already existing problems.

Nigeria has problems that aren't explained by white supremacy. The oil exploitation can be explained by white supremacy, the Northern caliphate distorting the distribution of wealth and resources simply because we do not hail from their lands is not.

That being said, just because we want autonomy does not mean we can not unite after we get it and fight white supremacy.

My apologies but I do understand that whites in Europe had to have revolutionagainst opressive whites, but those whites doing the opression wer not piad by anothr race opressing the entire continent, in fact no ther continent in the world has whte supremacy expressed it's ardent racism then in Afric, so if 400 years of horror, cannot get folks to unify, on their own continent in their own land and keeping at least some of their own culture and language

then what hope is there for us here to unite, without the luxury of any of those benefits?

Feeling good today fam...just been reading a couple of books. I think Dennis Kimbro's "Daily Motivations for African American Success" is one of the best motivational books on the market. This book has motivation for each day of the year on each page and all of these relate to your own Blackness. No matter what you're experiencing there's something in that book you could draw from. ✊
