Marvin Sease, 'Candy Licker' singer, dead at 64 of pneumonia in Vicksburg, Mississippi

Marvin Sease, a soul singer who took his lyrics to places that colleagues like Marvin Gaye only suggested, died Tuesday of pneumonia in Vicksburg, Miss.

He would have turned 65 next Wednesday.

Sease rode songs like his X-rated signature tune "Candy Licker" to great success in one of the many corners of popular music that operate under the mainstream radar.

In his case, that was the black club circuit, primarily in the South, where he sang songs too explicit for radio play but enduringly popular among his loyal core of fans.

He had a classic soul music voice that particularly appealed to female audiences, with a raw edge that reflected his early work in gospel groups.

Once he left for the secular world, though, he had no reservations about extolling the joys of the flesh.

"Candy Licker," whose subject isn't hard to discern from the title, starts out like a familiar sultry love song.

Sease then expands it into a whole narration, with further verses, choruses and spoken interludes. By the time it's finished, the song has lasted longer than the act it promises.

Born in Blackville, S.C., Sease began singing with the Five Gospel Crowns, a local group.

He moved to New York in 1966 and performed for a time with his brothers in the group Seas before going solo. He became popular at clubs like Brooklyn's Casablanca in the 1970s and recorded his first album, self-titled, in 1986.

That record featured "Ghetto Man," then when he signed with Polygram a year later it was expanded to include "Candy Licker."

He later recorded several albums that sold modestly well, though he never got much radio play. The closest he came to a hit was "Tonight," which scraped the bottom of the charts in 1991.

Fortunately, there's room in music for a wide range of popular artists, and Marvin Sease made himself one of them.

That is sad to see the brother pass at that early age, adn more then likely not knowing the many artists he influenced!

Things got wild when that record came on at a house party

Black and Latino custodial workers @ the Capitol Bldg said it was degrading to clean up the debris left by white supremacist who violently stormed the Capitol Bldg. They even had to clean up smeared feces. One staffer said they were used to cleaning up after white supremacist (referring to racist Congressional members). Those who were there that day feared for their life b/c they weren't given any protection.
Mother Jones posted a list of "law makers" nationwide who promoted/assisted in the insurrection on our government. ALL should be ousted, stripped of pensions, charged with sedition and felony murder.
If black folks are present at a crime, whether they participated or not, they're charged with as many violations as white folks can conjure up. Felony murder is top of their list. Why not for white domestic terrorist?
25,000 National Guardsmen are set up to protect for Biden/Harris inauguration! Authorities are AGAIN saying that white domestic terrorist are the largest threat in American and to the democratic process.
NOT Black Lives Matter protestors, NOT even foreign terrorist, but American grown white men who are angry about all the white privilege they have.
Twitter is now locking accounts for unusual activity when there is no unusual activity. Apparently if you post to much to soon, it triggers their spider hairs. Never mind that it's (or was) a platform to post information and opinions, now it's just a flat bed from the ghost-of-trump-past. Jack Dorsey/Twitter should be charged with giving trump the media to incite a resurrection against the United States government.
