Rev. J.Jackson rips Gilbert's LeBron comment

CHICAGO -- Jesse Jackson criticized Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert on Sunday, saying Gilbert sees LeBron James as a "runaway slave" and that the owner's comments after the free-agent forward decided to join the Miami Heat put the player in danger.

Shortly after James announced his decision last week, Gilbert fired off an incendiary letter to Cleveland's fans, ripping the 25-year-old and promising to deliver a title before James wins one. He called James' decision "cowardly" and later told The Associated Press he believes James quit during a handful of Cavaliers playoff games.
"He has gotten a free pass," Gilbert told the AP in a phone interview late Thursday night. "People have covered up for [James] for way too long. Tonight we saw who he really is."
Jackson said Gilbert's comments were "mean, arrogant and presumptuous."
"He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers," the reverend said in a release from his Chicago-based civil rights group, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. "His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship -- between business partners -- and LeBron honored his contract."
Messages were left Sunday night seeking comment from Gilbert, the Cavaliers and James.
Jackson also called Gilbert's comments an attack on all NBA players and said the owner should face a "challenge" from the league and the players' association.
NBA spokesman Tim Frank declined comment.

Jackson say!!!! His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship -- between business partners -- and LeBron honored his contract

It's really sad how LeBron is being treated due to his leaving Cleveland
these comments by the owner is outright slave master talk and the NBA
should step in when owners attack players and put them in danger, these kinda
actions is outright slanderous.

-- Rev. Jesse Jackson on Cavs owner Dan Gilbert's comments about LeBron James
and say that Lebron James did his job and honored the contract between owner
Gilbert and himself to play in Cleveland for 7 years.

James honored his contract for 7 years as promised and has the rights to move on .

Understandably so, and I am just simply looking at the fact that the City of Cleveland has just lost much of its economy due to LeBron leaving. You have to remember that he is/was probably the most highly-marketed individual in the nation, so when such a figure leaves and your city is dependent on him, and in such a time when the economy is bad, how do you think people will react?

At the end of the day it does not matter how LeBron is as a person; it is all about the fact that multiple dollar signs and wealth follow him. Now Miami gets to enjoy all of those fruits!

Hey.. the parallels between slavery and professional sports are staggering..
Plantation owners and Club owners are the same thing.. though the players are
paid well.. their salaries are just a drop in the bucket compared to the overall
profits the NBA makes on their backs.. if Cleveland would have made Lebron a
partner then he would have stayed.. Markee players should have a stake in clubs
they play for.. 20 million or so dollars is nothing compared to what they take in
in a year because of Lebron.. He sells out stadiums across the nation.. Dallas
has a stadium that seats 100,000 people... if the tickets were only $10, that would
be $1 Million dollars right their.. that's not including the food, the box seats, the
alcohol, the merchandise, etc.. if Lebron was making 20 Million his cut of that money
would be 195,000 before taxes.. including Texas and Ohio state taxes.. for the
sake of argument lets say that leaves him with roughly half left.. $100,000. Even
though he was the draw that generated Millions of dollars in revenue in that single
game, he only gets a small small portion of it.. It's a big number but it's also a
relatively small number.. if each team has 12 players.. and they all are making what
lebron is making, that still only comes to 2.4 Million dollars.. if 20 percent of the
folks in Dallas's stadium bought a $5 beer, that would be $100,000 dollars right there..
if 50% of the folks bought a hot dog for 5$, that would be $250,000...
but we know the numbers are much higher than these.. and when you include
the TV contracts and Parking Fees, the box seats and whatnot, you see that the
league is making money hand over foot.. and even the highest paid players are
making almost nothing.. relatively speaking. It's like sharecropping and only getting
to keep 1 or 2 percent of the crop.. it may be a lot but it's only a teeny tiny fraction
of what you have generated..

Why the greatest players don't get together and create their own league is beyond
my understanding.. Gather the investors.. the Bob Johnsons and the JayZs and
all the other optimistic new money and create a league to compete with the NBA..
a league without the slave/master structure..

anyway... I agree completely with Jesse... Nowhere else is the Slave/Master
thing so openly displayed as in sports.. Imagine showing up for work on monday
and finding out you have been traded to another office in another state!!.. for
cash.. Uproot the kids, leave your house, your community..

They try to control these guys through the media.. white media outlets all across the country attacked Lebron on a personal level.. and for what? For unifying with two other great African athletes.. but we've always known how unpopular Black Unity is in the white world.. Lebron just put the "Selfish black athelete" stereotype to bed, but no one mentions a thing about that.. and listen.. I'm not even a Lebron fan..

So true .............

and Cleveland cavs Team & owner was hit with a $100,000.00 fine for that comment about James David Stern said owner Gilbert has every right to be upset but his comment
was a bit over the edge and slap this handsom fine on him .........I guess Jackson
is please'd action was taken and his request heard !

I think the NBA didn't want to deal with the Founder of the Chicago base civil rights group, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Jackson.

Thank you for the welcome. I have a question. I am a doctorate student in need of participants for my study. Is it allowable to post a request for study participants. If so, this is the post that would be uploaded:
