Growing up in New York in the 1980's, I always loved to listen to Hip-Hop for it was about having fun and educating us about our history and culture that we didn't know about. When the 90's and the 21st century came, I felt like we lost the essence of what rap was about. How did the music go from uplifting our people to shake that booty and having 24" rims on your car. Also why do the industry has the need to disrespect the Black women, yet don't disrespect White women? I am tired of the nonsense that is going on in the Hip-Hop industry. I agree with you bigtown

Brother, you need to understand the direction "hip hop" was going into at the time Tupac was killed. What I am presenting is an "angle" that you most likely will not hear elsewhere because it's not pased on "theories" from police onvestigators who have become the "experts" and chief sources of information in the aftermath of his and Biggie's "assassinations". Plain and simple, Suge crossed over a line and the white mob was not gonna let him set up clubs and strip clubs on their turf and to this date there is no Vegas "rap scene" just "passers by". Tupac and Snoop were going into the direction of doing porn videos and this accounts for Pac's friendship with Ron Hightower and Heather Hunter, just to name the main ones at the time. It is no small wonder that Snoop started the "Doggystyle" videos after leaving Tha Row since this was a direction that No Limit and Mystical waas breaking ground in. Game Entertainment which does the "Hip Hop Honeys" videos shot one series in Vegas but that was it but Royce da 5'9 was involved in a shooting incident afterwards. The mafia ain't letting black rappers move into that market, not yet. They got too much of the club scene going through Pure Nightclub.

I agree that this is a "sad state of affairs" and for that reason a few months ago stopped buying mainstream hip hop and I dont watch BET or MTV video programs. However, as I have pointed out before, there are BLACK WOMEN who are high level exectuvies within BET, MTV and Media One whio are actively involved in determining the programming of these formats. That is how video "vixens" such as Melyssa Ford are getting hired. Again, I can agree with much of the criticism of "hip hop" but maintain that it doesn't begin there.

I say this because I personally have a problem, on the other hand, with radio programmers who have R&B formats that advertise the fact they don't play hip hop but then have COMEDIANS as DJ's and then play mostly "bump and grind" music. Quite frankly, I dont see how R.Kelly is any better than Nelly or Snoop. Furthermore, most "bump and grind" artists feature "rappers" on many of their tracks. Just look at Usher and the work he's done with Luda and Lil Jon.

And looking back, I got into "rap" more back in the 80s cuz I was tired of Al B. Sure, Keith Sweat and Prince. And all their music is/was about is "sex, sex and more sex"....

So really, what's the difference??
Your theory on the Tupac killing sounds as good as any others out there messing with the mob never is good for anyones health.
Yeah music always has been about sex too some degree I mean there were old time songs like "gotta get you home with me tonight" by Ray Parker Junior
Freddie Jackson and numerous others also had overtly sexual lyrics and scantily clad females , there are also a whole lot of white chicks who are blantly sold as sex objects like Brittiny Spears and Christina Augerilla SP?
So don`t really know why hip hop videos tend to PO folk more maybe its because there is often just so much naked female flesh at one go,
maybe there is just something that little bit extra negative in how its done in rap videos?
Or maybe because modern rap tends to be so negative in general that these other negative aspects in them just look a whole lot worse than in other media.
Maybe its even something as simple as class, because Freddie and Ray were smooth and classy the stuff didn`t look as negative when they did it.but since most of these rappers promotes themselves as thugz and generallly push a whole lot more negativity in general their use of female flesh just naturally seems that bit more low class and evil?

Brother, I got to agree with you and have decided never to again put myself in a position of defending rap music. In fact, I just cancelled my HBO tonight so wont even be tuning in to Def Jam Poetry when that comes back.

I cant really say much about the Tupac situation anymore because most folks gonna believe what they want anyway. In some ways, over the years I have said too much. It goes so deep that most of the experts are way off and those who fall for what these ex-cops have written are really lost.

The day before Biggie was killed a cousin of mine and I had attended a jazz concert at the LACMA across the street from Peterson and ran into some musicians my cousin knew from New York that also later attended the Source event and after-party. Folks was spreading rumors before it even went down. I know folks that were there at Peterson that night. I also had former students who had folks there and some were tight with Tupac. The middle school I worked at was down the street and I had a cousin who had kids at the local elementary school. I grew up in that Fairfax district and heard all kinds of rumors. I was even threatened when some folks found out about some family ties to Biggie. One of my cousin's had recorded with him and folks found out about my relationship. A good friend of mine was close to Sista Souljah was was working on a project through "Daddy's House" and knew Lil Kim and P-Diddy. Most of my family in LA involved in the music industry that I did club work with were tight with fillm producers from Brooklyn.

I heard buzz going around the neighborhood and tried to tell some school authorities when some "taggers" were going around "claiming" some connection to his shooters and calling their clique "NBK" (Notorious Big Killers). Folks just told me I was crazy especially the principal and local school police. When my car got vandalized I took this info to the Wilshire Police Department and they laughed at me. However, I later found out that the officer I reported to was later reassigned and they called the school asking about me then later transferred the case from Wilshire to the Downtown head office.

One of the kids who threatened me was later expelled when he threatened a white teacher who also discovered his "tagging" while claiming also to have family connections to a Death Row artist who also had a step-son who also was a former student of mine. Ironically, one of the students who was claiming "NBK" was later in the group "B2K". Just a coincidence???

LOL okay not even sure wether to take the cancelling of def poetry as serious or sarcasim.
There is a misunderstanding here though see a lot of rap and hip hop can be be very positive, pre the emergence of the whole thug life Gangsta rappers hip hop and rap was almost entirely positive (public Enemy for instance) at worse the worst of it was nutural.
nowadays even the odd Thug Life artist like Ice Cube and even Tupac and even NWA were able to come up with something more meangiful and positive take Tupac he would come out with something like "Holla if you hear me" and "dear Mama". both Meaningful and somewhat positive, but then undo that with "hit em up" and "Made N*ggaz".
So really Rap in itself is not bad or classless like most things its going to depend on who is using it and how they use to wether its good or bad positive or negative.
Thing with rap now is most of the stuff getting publisized and pushed is the negative "killing n1ggaz "raping ho's" suck my d**k" type of lyrics and mentality, to many videos of half naked black females being pushed as worthy of nothing more than disrespect and being used just for sex.
If someone wants to fight for rap and hip hop then part of that fight would seem to be getting rid of all that negative gangsta anti black self hating bs.
And return it to the days when it was pro black with the likes of public Enemy and Arrested Devolpment.
Back to the days it was about promoting self improvement and promoting a "pro Black mentality"
Rather than promoting killing criminality and disrespecting sisters and promoting a "N*gga*" mentality.
with half of these gangsta rap lyrics if you just got to read them you would have trouble telling they were from black folk and would think it was the latest minutes from a KKK meeting the way they promote killing blacks so much.
Its not rap and hip hop that needs to be gone to war with just Gangsta rap and the gangsta mentality.
sounds like you maybe onto something with the Tupac& Biggie killings if fools are threatening you over it.

War?

The Rapp Industry is at war with it self. There is no form of show business including the "Dare-Devil"...that is more "Dangerous" to be in. There is no other business ware you must keep a look over the shoulder at "All" times...then the "War" like atmosphire of the "Rapp-Industry".
The biggist problem with the "Rapp-Industry" is that it has allowed itself to be "Co-Opt" by "Money, Drugs, Sex, Trechery, Ignorance and Greed". Any Industry that is based in these things will "Die" a un-natral "Death" in "Time" for there is no need for it "If" it does not play a part and role in the "Struggle" for "African-Liberation" from the other "Terrony" that "Co-Opted" it...The System of White Superimacy.

First of all, I would like to say, that everyone had very intelligent remarks to make in this thread.

I think that rap is getting insane. I think BET's UNCUT was clear cut evidence to the white man, a how ignorant some blacks can be. Splashing champagne on women in videos, and creating a thousand and one songs about @ss, makes black people look like the porch monkeys white people talk about. I must say, it is an embarrasment

BUT like many people said in these threads , that all though we want to look at it, like it's the rappers fault, CLEARLY it is not. The rapper himself is an insecure soul, so in order to validate himself, he must have the women, cars, bling etc, around him, to make him look important. Take that all away and what do you have? Is his lyrics quite as tight? Is his beatz just as hot? Maybe, maybe not. Are we in love with his raw talent, honestly, or just the misconstrued source of reality surronding him in the video??

But seriously. People only do, what we LET them do. If women can be paid to make a man look like a pimp, than why are we made at the rapper. Thats like putting a bone in front of a dog, or candy in front of a child and telling them not to touch it. If females agree to be disrespected in the video than disrespected they will be.

Let a white singer or rapper start showboatin' black half naked women in THEIR video. OH now, THEN it would be a problem.....right?? "OH no, they ain't gonna be disrespectin OUR women" QUESTION. If Black men dont respect their black women, and black women dont respect themselves, its no wonder no one else does......

I am so disgusted with the videos portraying negative images of black women, that I don't bother to watch any rap videos, and very little of the others if this is their focus. I can't help but to think that a lot of these girls were raised without fathers, and are needing to get some male attention.

My daughter is too old for that kind of stuff, but she would come to me and ask my opinion first, if she wanted to do that, because I am that kind of father. She'd be an adult, so I couldn't stop her, but I would let her know how dissatisfied I would be with her if she did, and that this isn't just about her, it's about all black women in particular and the race in general.

I've heard that a lot of male students watch these videos rather than do their homework. We don't need anymore distractions.

Our BET has now been Co-Opt by Racist Europians*

How meny of (Africans) in Amerikkka know who owns BET today?? Who bought BET from its Original owners for a price he could not refuse for $13-Billion Dollars??
The answer to this question is..."The Federal Reserve"!! BET is now own, opporated, controled, programed, distributed and cindicated by its "New" owners..."The Federal Reserve" or caommonly called "The IRS" who now controls every Major net-work...Radio, T.V., News Paper, FCC and all other "Media" in the U.S. and the rest of the world. As fantastic as this sounds...it is the Absolute Truth. For those who are up-set, discusted, disturbed, appaled, alarmed at how "We" (Africans in Amerikkka) are viewed and presented to the rest of the world againts our collective "Will"...when we know that this "Filth" is not what we "Choose" to represent "Us"...to the rest of the "World". We will all ways have "Weak, Ignorant, Low-Life Negros who claim they are "Keepin it Real" to justify the fact that they have sold their "Souls", Future, Children, Community and Hue-Man Dignity for the "Dollar". The United States Government that brought our so-called African people here in "Slavery" has never stop "Exploiting"...Us...from the time we first arrived in the 1500's till now. They do not have your best interest in their "Racist, Evil, Wicket and Murderus Minds". The only reason "We" Africans and Africans in Amerikkka are so slow, lathargic and seemingly too ignorant to do something about our collective conditions is because of the..."White, Racist, Concocted "Religions" that we so blindly follow...not knowing the real truth of their "Origins"......None of the Religions we Follow are from G-d or Creator but are only the products of the System of White Superimacy that "Made them up to the Letter" to control the "Masses" and our Collective "Minds" with out right "Foolishness" that is "Not" in accord with "Nature"...The Natural Order of Things...Any-Ware...but in our Hoodwinked and Bamboozeled Negro, Slave Conditioned...Minds. The Absolute white wash that we follow is the "Key" , "Root" reasons we are not in Control of our Selves...and never, ever will be as long as we continue to "Worship" their white superist and racist Spooks, Spirits and so-called Holy-Ghost. Almost every BET-Rapper has a "Cross" around their "Necks"...a symbol that is only a sign of Suffering, Slavery and Death. What does the "Cross" represent on BET with the Negro Men and Women make-ing compleat "Fools of themselves"?? The answer is nothing! The "Cross" is only the "Tool" used by the Indo-Europian "Romans" to "Torture and Kill" hue-mans and nothing else...there is nothing Holy what so ever about this worthles symbol of Europes "Evil, wicket, murderus, invading and War loving History...that all it (Cross) stands for. This is why (Europians) they don't mind if you ware one around you ignornat neck...they know you are celibrating "Death"!! Some foolishly think that the symbols found in Kemet that look like a cross is justification to ware the Europian Cross of Death around their necks...this is a grave Error! The Original People of the Earth or so-called African never put people to death on a cross or wore them around their necks as you do...it had a total and absolute different meaning that you know nothing about today. There has never been a Man in the history of the Known Universe who lived by the name "Jesus the Christ" and the makers, Concocters and Fabricators of these "Lies" called Religian knows this but you don't...why??....Because you have been made a Slave and don't know who you are any more...and are at the lack of mercy of the Co-Opters who give you "Crumbs" to show your ignorant Butts to the world and you think and say that you are just "Keepin it Real"?!. It has all ways been real...it has never, ever not been Real...so what are you saying?? When you don't know who you are...you can not control yourself...when you are not in control of your self...some body else is in control of you and your "Mind" while you wait on a false so-called Holy Ghost that don't exist and can do nothing to help you...no matter how devoted and how much you "Worship" it...it is "Nothing" and the Europian who gave it to you knows thay you don't know any better and are totaly and absolutely under their Religious Control...Your Brother is only trying to "Wake You Up"...African!.........People Know Thy Self

1619+400=2019 Jamestown Virginia...end of slavery. (Yes modern miseducation and injustices count as slavery) But no proper reparations will be given since the amount of contributions beyond humanity transcends generations. Our people have history that is equal to trillions of dollars including Melanin research and its supernatural power.
I want my people to be aware of this dilemma regarding the upcoming election... I know politics. Yes Trump is admitting the truth about Black People building this so called country corporation (The United States).
