Black Authors : Has anyone ever made money from their poetry?

Thank you James! Congrats on getting your book published too!
I am writing a second one myself and I'm still trying to get the first on out!
I didn't want to pay for my own book or sell it at poetry clubs.
I wish poetry was respected enough to the point where they acknowledge like a good mystery novel.
I wonder what did niki giovanni,sonia sanchez,maya angelou do to become worldwide famous poets?There are so many of us how do only a few get chosen and the others are left spittin in clubs forever and never being seen or heard when they have alot to say

cursed heart........I too ask the same question of why and how
Poetry is not Respected in it's upmost often over looked and not
realized that poetry is a relaxer a healer a stress releaser and in
our every day path .......but still it's over looked
a Poet is a Poem that's Poetry and poeticly missed as Rappers
use often the lyrics of poetry to complete there rhymes & rythem
to millions it's like stolen treasure publishers look for a mystery
a novel , i don't buy the fact that poetry can't sell big it's proven
that it can as we see great poet's likes of the Angelou , sanchez,
giovanni and many others , poetry is life through expression / emotion
reality and the dreams poetry will be the stepping stone soon .......

My question now is what can we do to change it?
I mean see a few poets I know blowing up but it's more like spoken word ! I do both and sing! You spit poetry and spoken word! I see cats like danny divine,dina dean,malik yusef,red storm,mark marcell blowing up but then after they get a little recongnition poof! they disapear and they are still in the clubs performing the same pieces and starting all over again! And these are fantastic poets as well as we are! So what's the solution?If we ever plan to make it we need to work together!
How do we become world renowned poets?
I know it might not mean much to some to me it's everything

That's true i'm not sure how and who we need to take it too
but indeed poet's need to form a structure a unifyed mission
to be heard and known , it's like us against the society of people

May the start will have to come from us , time we use our mind
and toss a few ideas around get more poet's involved

write about how poetry is being shadowed and rising poet's over looked
publish articles about poetry the means and it goal what roll it play in
every day life these are some of the things we can do to start once we
unite as poet's together push for publishers to give Poetry respect like
they do a novel push for playwritters to use lyrics from poems actors
speak it from stages to Hollywood , but we have to build our inner power
by coming together working together for our poetic rights and good will
to be heard , seen and published surely poetry is alive and well and will be
here for a long time just a hand pick few make it another piece of our struggle.

tru dat...they've been kickin the same pieces 4 years...u gotta find an outlet that enables u to be heard worldwide...not just in da burbs or da city in one state...
