Potential is a burden
uneasily carried until it is fulfilled.
As I have been aware of my own
ability to think and reason,
I have been aware of my potential.

Whether or not the potential
actually exists does not matter.
The fact that there is a possibility that it exists
leads me to search for a way to fulfill my potential.

Along the way, there are many roads
but, not all reach potential’s destination.
Still, I have traveled those roads willingly
and am the better for it for now I stand at the threshold
of an opportunity to fulfill my potential.

It is my goal to go beyond the traditional boundaries
of established criteria to investigate the linkages
between social phenomena and behavior
by melding creativity with critical thinking
and moving the theoretical into the realm of practicality.
This is my potential, if, I have the strength to lift it.

a good sista friend of mine

was speaking on this same theme. I love the way you captured what is real for many of us who are cognizant of our chosen path, and have our "bearings"... much, much depth and personal meaning in this right here...

Still, I have traveled those roads willingly
and am the better for it for now I stand at the threshold
of an opportunity to fulfill my potential

You are my true guru brotha

I'm Black on Destee, I feel at home! It's been a while! Soooo in 2004 I married my Senegalese Husband, when I first went to Senegal, I loved, it! The people were hospitable and my husband's family was very kind! Well I've been there many times now, have taken African Americans, well over 150 and it has been an amazing experience!
