Im on both sides of the fence.
I respect and appreciate the business model. Do for self. Rebuild those communities. Hire local.

It is the religious overtones and cult-leader personality of Royall Allah that I would have a problem with.

However, If it works, it works.
I agree, and you also have to take into account that information sista Blacklioness posted.

Are you of the mindset that race is a social construct that doesn't really exist?? Why is talk of Black communities "ish"?? If you don't believe in race why do you spend your time at a site that is dedicated to the uplifting of a specific race??
Good point. Race being a social construct is a classic battle,I've seen this argument on many boards.Race has been one of the most influential issues in American society since its beginning. Race as a social construction did have a beginning here in America. IMO,I think race always existed. Even though the term "nation" was used in ancient times,it still was made of different races.

Peace!

Actually, race meant tribe if you go back far enough in history.
I'd say that race is a political construct for purposes of establishing political and social class systems.

race

"people of common descent," c.1500, from M.Fr. razza "race, breed, lineage," possibly from It. razza, of unknown origin (cf. Sp., Port. raza). Original senses in English included "wines with characteristic flavor" (1520), "group of people with common occupation" (c.1500), and "generation" (c.1560). Meaning "tribe, nation, or people regarded as of common stock" is from c.1600. Modern meaning of "one of the great divisions of mankind based on physical peculiarities" is from 1774 (though even among anthropologists there never has been an accepted classification of these).
Just being a Negro doesn't qualify you to understand the race situation any more than being sick makes you an expert on medicine. [Dick Gregory, 1964]
Klein suggests these derive from Arabic ra's "head, beginning, origin" (cf. Heb. rosh). O.E. þeode meant both "race" and "language;" as a verb, geþeodan, it meant "to unite, to join." Race-riot attested from 1890.
The purposes of division and categorization, in part, is to label, control, or invest with qualities or properties.
