In no way am I answering for Deacs, Boboshante, although he's been absent from the Forums for a period of days now. But as Thread starter, historical background between Europe and the United States seems appropriate, based on your highlighted statement above.

Let's not forget that the founders of America were the outcasts of Europe. They were murderers, convicts, gangsters, low-life, criminals, you name it.

Europe got rid of its worst characters, and those same minded folk set up America and its constitutional laws-right to bear arms.

So, its understandable why Europe functions around the "English Bobby" concept of unarmed policing; while citizens of America are faced with whether to open carry or conceal carry weapons.

...
Not factually correct. Lots of the people that left the uk and Ireland were poor and went to the USA to build a new life for themselves.

The criminals were sent to Australia another democratic civilised country like the USA but without the gun culture.

It's more about maintaining a status quo so that those that benefit from the sales of guns maintain their wealth.

... on the topic; guns only put you in the mindspace of being ready to use killing as an answer to anything when the evidence is clear that it only leads to retaliation and revenge killings. if one ain't smart enough to figure that out then leave me out of your alleged "planning" cuz it'll just be more of the same.

Alleged planning? ... More of the same.

No, we believe the pen is mightier than the sword:

Really Boboshante? Not factually correct, and you say criminals were sent to Australia, really?

Criminals to Australia occurred some 200 hundred years after the time-line in question.

Here are some facts in support of my statements:

History 110 - Dr. Gayle Olson-Raymer
The Europeans - Why they left and why it matters

Goal #6: To address the question, "why does any of this matter?"

Most of you are not history majors and you may have been wondering over the past few days, "why does any of this matter?" There is a very easy answer for this rather complex question - because it tells us a great deal about who we are today!!

It tells us that the first waves of European immigrants to the "New World" were largely people no longer wanted or welcome in Europe - so called "disposable people" who were forced to carve out a new life in an unfriendly environment and dedicated to the idea that hard working, Protestants could, as individuals, create a better life for themselves.

It tells us that immigrants to America came from diverse social, religious, economic, and political backgrounds. Thus, America was never destined to become a "melting pot" where people blended together to form a common American community. Rather, thousands of individuals with different ideas about EVERYTHING settled here.

Jamestown Colonists Resorted to Cannibalism
A gruesome discovery in a trash deposit at Jamestown points to cannibalism.

At first the settlers ate their horses, then their dogs and cats. Jamestown residents also ate rats, mice, and snakes, according to a firsthand account by George Percy, who became the colony’s temporary leader after John Smith left.

Percy writes that some colonists ate their boots, shoes, and any other leather they could find. Others left the fort to search for roots in the woods, but were killed by Powhatan warriors.

Crime and Punishment in Plymouth Colony
Warning to Parents and Teachers:
Some of the criminal acts discussed on this page are very graphic and explicit in nature, and some involve sexual acts that are shocking and repulsive even by non-Puritanical standards.

The first person executed for murder was Mayflower passenger John Billington, who was hanged in September 1630. He had gunned down John Newcomen, apparently the result of an ongoing quarrel. Arthur Peach, Thomas Jackson, Richard Stinnings and Daniel Cross were convicted of murdering an Indian named Penowanyanquis in 1638: the motive was robbery. Daniel Cross escaped custody, but the others were executed by hanging. The triple-hanging sent a strong message that Plymouth Colony would treat the murder of Native Americans equally. In 1648, Alice Bishop was hanged for slashing the neck of her 4-year old daughter Martha with a knife, while Martha was sleeping in her bed: perhaps the most shocking and horrific crime in Plymouth Colony's history.

I will give those links a read and respond accordingly.

Some of the people that left the uk and Ireland were indeed not wanted in the uk but not for the reasons cited here.

The Scottish land clearings forced thousands off their lands resulting in them having nowhere to live.

The Irish were victimised and often enslaved like blacks for being Catholics. Again they were not wanted in the uk.

It would appear I have been taught a different take on this important part of history.

Not really, just accept that all these things you cite above, and listed below, hardened those seeking a new life in the New World, the extent to which the right to bare arms prevailed.

Please present some data on this, Boboshante:

"The criminals were sent to Australia another democratic civilised country like the USA but without the gun culture."
