Black Poetry : Another Year

Jul 2, 2003
When I walked into that place

The door opened and I saw your face.

I knew that things would never be the same.

That is why I often reached out to touch your hand
Spent as much time as possible
Working to be your man

The years are passing I think of you

I hope you once thought of me too.

Been a few such a long, long time

I still have this image etched deep in mind

Of sitting and laughing

Trying to be witty

Hold your attention

Keep you near me

I mean going broke to get what I need

Never occurred to me as an issue you see

Because all that mattered was being with you

I know you knew this but you wouldn’t acknowledge it’s true

Another year has come and is passing out

A new one a chance meeting no doubt

One day coming face to face... even for one more time

I hope without a word, we hug.
