A Heart Shattered

Slivers of resentment masked my discontent

‘Tis a tortured cry from an aching soul
Fables. Deceit. Lies I’ve told

Like humpty dumpty, it all came down

Shattered

The creech, creech, creech as my heart broke
Brought increasing agony as nerve endings woke
And the horrid stench of sordid woes
Gave rise to the filth of the sins I chose

When day break came and my pain did not cease
I prayed for forgiveness but got no relief

With shards of emotions splayed across the floor
My wailing heart did scream once more

Chasms and fissures began to grow
As splintering sounds of cracking grew
Overwhelming the silent winds that blew
Erasing happiness I once knew
‘Til the sound of heartbreak no longer filled the air
No misery and anguish. No feigned despair

Shattered

I followed the lights that dotted the east
Met damaging shards of emotional grief
(I had inflicted on me)

There were no immediate signs of relief
No shred of hope, or sacred belief
No peace to pacify my weary soul
No stories told of long ago

I’m held sway by Hell’s wicked beast
